Rwanda’s coffee history is intertwined with its past. Introduced in the 1930s under Belgian colonial rule, coffee was once a symbol of exploitation. Even after independence, quality stagnated and prices remained low. Today, thanks to smallholder farmers, government support, and specialty coffee initiatives, Rwandan coffee is a source of pride and opportunity.
